- No, I am aware that there nowhere near the number of people running any
- of the free unices as Windows/WindowsNT. I know, however, that many of
- us would prefer to be running under a UN*X variant as opposed to
- Windows/WindowsNT.
-
- I program Windows/WindowsNT for a living, so I have nothing against them,
- but for my animation work I much prefer working under UN*X. There is an
- incredible X server available for $99 from X Inside, Inc. that makes X
- SCREAM under either Linux or FreeBSD, which will soon support OpenGL as
- well. With this in mind, it would be great to be able to use Lightwave
- under UN*X on something other than a $10,000 SGI (Indy 24-bit.)
-
- Would this product NewTek millions more dollars than if they didn't do
- it? No, but it would surely gain some customers (how much I can't say)
- and make others extremely happy.
-
- As I said, if there wasn't already a UN*X version done, I could
- understand them not considering it. Last time I checked, moving from
- IRIX to FreeBSD/Linux was not all that complex.

- Well, I run several mailing lists, have an active newsfeed, etc, so for
- me to reboot to NT to do my animation work means that my newsfeed gets
- temporarily put on hold, my mailing lists stop functioning, and so forth
- until the project is done.
-
- I would be truly happy if Majordomo, Innd, Perl, etc, are ported to NT,
- or Lightwave is ported to FreeBSD/Linux.
